The Iron Beam lamp is a faithful reissue of a prototype that the notable Belgian designer Christophe Gevers created for his own home in 1973. The lamp is composed from a heavy angle iron beam (typically found in construction) that has been cut to form a square. A lacquered metal lamp holder is connected via a supporting bracket and the lamp is finished with a wide anodised aluminium reflector. Used with a mirrored top light bulb the lamp creates a soft spotlight from the illumination cast onto the textured interior of the reflector. The iron base has been left to reveal the beautifully rough textured patina intrinsic to the metal.
Christophe Gevers (1928-2007) was an interior architect and designer who worked with a wide range of private and commercial clients on interiors and furnishing projects for restaurants, banks and shops. As a result much of Gevers’ oeuvre is made up of project specific pieces and prototypes that he designed and made himself using small local manufactures and artisans. While Gevers did collaborate with a few companies that put his work into production, he preferred to keep things to a small scale to maintain quality material choices and finish. This artisanal form of expression sets the work of Gevers apart and remains evident in his Iron Beam lamp.
The Iron Beam is a new edition which has been produced under license by axis71. The mirror top light source is included with the lamp.
