Packaging Commitments

As a small business selling mostly used vintage items, The Neuter is already fully committed to participating in the circular economy. This commitment extends to the way we package our products. Our packaging includes fully recyclable cardboard boxes and packing tape, 100% compostable plant-based loose fill material, and limited use of plastic bubble wrap.

Cardboard boxes: our boxes are constructed from double layered corrugated cardboard, using 60-90% recycled material. They are strong, re-usable and 100% recyclable.

Packing tape: as an alternative to polypropylene, PVC or plastic tape we use a 56gsm paper kraft tape to secure your packages. This tape is 100% recyclable.

Void fill: to cushion and protect orders, we use Ecoflo, a 100% compostable and water soluble loose fill material made from annually renewable corn starch. The manufacturing process for EcoFlo is an energy-efficient, single-stage process using water as opposed to the multi-stage, high energy-consuming production process used in expanding polystyrene.

Bubble wrap: we use an oxo-biodegradable bubble wrap which is nevertheless still conventional plastic mixed with additives to speed up the degradation process. We try to limit the use of this of this product in our packaging and use as little tape as possible, so it can be easily re-used or recycled.

Packaging Waste Compliance

We are evaluating our obligations for packaging waste recycling following the European Union Packaging Waste Directive which puts the responsibility onto producers, importers and sellers to pay for the recycling of their packaging. Similar laws have been introduced by several non-EU countries including the United Kingdom.

In the United Kingdom we do not produce enough packaging waste to be affected by the extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging.

In Germany, The Neuter is registered with the Central Agency Packaging Register, ZSVR (Stifung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister) with registration number DE5122941021546 and dual system partner Activate by Reclay for the collection, sorting, and recycling of our packaging.
