The TC-6 is a fine reissue of the iconic lamp designed by the Dutch architect Aldo van den Nieuwelaar in 1968. First produced by Artimeta, the lamp formed part of the Tubular Construction (TC) series of lamps which all used a fluorescent light source as the starting point for the design. The lamp is a beautiful example of Van den Nieuwelaar’s sense of geometry and adherence to simplicity and clarity of form. Atelier Artiforte’s edition of the TC-6 respectfully maintains the spirit of the lamp while updating it with an LED light source housed within an acrylic tube. A new addition of an optical dimmer allows for the intensity of light to be adjusted with the swipe of a hand. The TC-6 can be used as a table lamp or installed as a wall lamp.
Aldo van den Nieuwelaar (1944-2010) was born in Tilburg and studied at the Academy of Art and Design in Breda. As a designer his work encompassed furniture, cabinets, lamps and rugs, including the famous Amsterdammer cabinet For Pastoe and lighting for several public spaces in the Netherlands. Van den Nieuwelaar’s work is included in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Boijmans van Beuningen and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Atelier Artiforte was founded in 1930 in Rotterdam. Under the creative watch of Henk Fillekes the company had its golden age in the 1950s and 1960s with innovative lighting using new materials and techniques, and with pieces by Kho Liang Ie and the Bauhaus architect Johan Niegeman included in the collection.
The TC-6 is a new edition which has been produced by Atelier Artiforte under license from Aldo van den Nieuwelaar Design. Each piece is individually numbered and sold with certification.
