Vico Magistretti, Cirene, Artemide 1966

£520.00

The Cirene stem suspension lamp is another beautiful example of Vico Magistretti’s design methodology of the decomposition and combination of geometric forms. Designed in 1966, this edition of the Cirene has an opaline glass diffuser (rather than plexiglass) and was the more expensive of the two versions produced by Artemide. The design of the lamp consists in the simple union of two independent semi-spherical bodies: a lacquered metal dome in an off-white tone and an opaline glass diffuser. The light source is contained within the space between the two hemispheres and is therefore not directly visible, creating a beautiful soft diffuse light from all sides and angles.

More information on the Cirene, as well as a full catalogue of all of Magistretti’s works and projects, can be viewed at the Archivio Vico Magistretti.

The lamp is in very good condition and perfect working order. There are a few scratches and knocks to the stem probably caused when it has been thread through the metal dome and ceiling rose. The previous owner has attempted to touch this up, but on the whole it is not that discernible once hung. Please note that the sale does not include the 3 light bulbs that are required for the lamp.
